The Southold Police Department is warning residents that scammers are using its administrative phone number to make spam calls.

Officials with the department say the number was spoofed, but their phone line remains operational and poses no problems to police or emergency services.

The department said residents should remember that all calls made will be from a live person and the caller will identify themselves as a member of the department. They also add that officers will never ask for sensitive personal or financial information over the phone.

If anyone is concerned they've been contacted by a scammer, they're asked to call the department directly at 631-765-2600.
