A candidate for Southampton Village Board is accused of using a racial slur during a 911 call.

Audio of the 911 call was obtained by the website 27east.com.  The candidate, Valerie Smith, reportedly admitted that she was the one talking about her neighbors in the Hillcrest section of Southampton.

“There's a bunch of [expletives] standing in front of my house, drinking Hennessy and everything else,” she reportedly said on the call.

Smith was said to have also described a separate altercation with neighbors in which she said to one of them, “I know you're a good guy, but you don't behave like that … If you want to behave like that, you're going to be a [expletive].”

27east.com says that Smith told a reporter she feels entitled to use the slur because she's a “pioneer.” Smith, who claims to be the first white person to buy a home in the minority community, says she is now running for village board to help her neighborhood.

Neighbors say that even after everything's that’s gone on, they don't hate her. Some say they're even praying for her, although it doesn't mean Smith will have their support at the ballot box.

News 12 reached out to Smith by phone. She declined the request for an interview, but said she would be available to speak with the press later this week.
