The East End of Long Island will finally have its first trauma center as Southampton Hospital has now become a Level Three trauma center, making it capable of caring for serious accident victims.
Officials say the move by Southampton Hospital could mean the difference between life and death after serious crashes. Now accident victims will no longer have to be brought to Brookhaven Hospital or Stony Brook University Hospital.
Southampton can now treat injured people or at least stabilize them before sending them to Stony Brook.
