Officials and residents on the South Shore watched closely as flood-prone areas braced for the next storm surge.

There was some localized flooding across the South Shore, but by mid-afternoon snowfall had tapered off. 

"This is what it is when we live here," said Patty Attanasio, who woke up to find her Lindenhurst street full of water. "You put up with it because it's beautiful in the summer. My view, you can't beat that."

Still, with high tide in the early evening, many residents were concerned that the already waterlogged area would see more floodwater. 

Residents said their concerns would continue into Wednesday, because after last week's storm, the worst of the flooding happened the following day.

Babylon Councilman Terence McSweeney said the town's Highway Department was pulling double duty keeping roads clear of snow and helping out flood victims along the waterfront.

"There's no relief for these guys, and we wish them the best," he said. "We're gonna do everything we can."
