Some residents in Amityville who live near the Great South Bay told News 12 Long Island that the mosquito season has been abnormally brutal this year.
Mitchell Seymour, who has lived on the South Shore for 24 years, says, "This is the worst season we have ever had."
Seymour, and other residents, say they have had to limit their time outdoors in their community due to the amount of mosquitoes they have had to deal with.
The Suffolk County Health Department told News 12 Long Island that they have seen an increase in calls from South Shore communities.
The Suffolk Department of Public Works will be conducting ground spraying for salt marsh mosquitoes in Brookhaven, Bellport, Oak Beach, Gilgo Beach, and Captree Wednesday night.
On Thursday night, the DPW will be doing aerial spraying for adult mosquitoes in Islip, East Islip, Great River and near Heckscher Park.
The spraying timeframe is dependent on the weather conditions.
Suffolk Vector Control Director Tom Iwanejko says the spraying should show results on the morning after it is dispersed.
