Suffolk police say there was a noncredible threat at South Ocean Middle school.
Police say the school received an email overnight indicating there was a bomb on the second floor of the school. Police were notified at approximately 7:50 a.m.
Emergency Service Section officers checked the school and the threat was determined to be noncredible.
Parents received an email from the superintendent saying that all faculty and staff were immediately evacuated from the building, and an investigation was launched in coordination with the Suffolk County Police Department.
No students were allowed in the building once they began arriving. Walkers were directed to South Ocean’s field, and buses were taken to Bay Elementary School.
Some parents told News 12 that they were frustrated, saying it took over an hour for them to figure out what was happening down at the school - as they were being communicated to by their children who have cellphones.
