The South Farmingdale Fire Department is taking time out of their holiday to make sure families in need have a happy Thanksgiving.
Firefighters were up early cooking chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and more holiday classics.
More than 20 firefighters and their families helped make the meals.
They are delivering the food to families this afternoon.
"This is the second year we are doing this. We are partnering with the Farmingdale School District,” said Fire Commissioner Jeff Tasch. ''They provide us with the number of families, the number of people they have that are in need. It's all anonymous. We don't know who they are."
A total of 49 people will be fed today.
"I think I speak for all of us when I say that it feels amazing," Tasch said. "Before they do, they say god bless you, thanks you so much for what you are doing. We all get hugs; that's what it is all about."
Tasch tells News 12 the local Girl Scouts donated food and canned goods too.
Any leftover food will be donated to Saint Joseph's and Good Samaritan University hospitals.
