Bronx community activists protested Monday outside Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr.?s office to demand a meeting over the proposed construction of a Hunt?s Point jail.Members of Community of Unity learned in June that the Department of Corrections was planning to build a jail at the Oak Point freight yard. They then demanded a meeting with Adolfo Carrion Jr., the Bronx borough president. They had hoped that he would join them in condemning the plan, but say instead Carrion Jr. has been ignoring their requests for a sit down.Department of Corrections officials say they have to build a new jail at the location because the city?s Riker?s Island facility needs major repairs. A representative from Carrion Jr.?s office says he will meet with Community of Unity on October 2.
