The Sound Beach community is calling for the local post office to reopen.
Local leaders say the post office closed earlier this summer because of structural problems. They say repairs on the building haven't started.
Residents are asking for the U.S. Postal Service to get the facility back open.
Sen. Chuck Schumer issued a statement saying, “I have contacted Postmaster General DeJoy to get information and demand answers ASAP for Sound Beach residents regarding the months-long closure of their post office, and I have called for a swift and safe reopening of the facility so that Sound Beach is delivered the post office and postal services they deserve.” In a statement to News 12, the postal service says it will continue to work with the building's owner to complete the repairs as soon as possible.
