A plan to build a solar farm in Kings Park has some residents concerned.
Neighbors close to the proposed 27-acre site on Old Northport Road say they want a study conducted to show the potential health risks related to solar energy.
BQ Energy, the group behind the plan, says there is no health risk associated with the use of solar energy. Managing Director Paul Curran says the company hopes to work with residents to address their concerns.
"Solar energy is great for the environment. It's great for the health of human beings, and the more we use renewable resources, the better the environment and our health will be," says Curran. "There is no science behind the claim that there is a radiation risk associated with solar energy."
The managing director for BQ Energy says if its proposal is approved by the Town of Smithtown, the company hopes to have the project built by 2016.
