There are concerns that a new feature on the popular social media app Snapchat could allow predators to track children.

A newly released feature known as Snap Map can show a person's exact location.

Laura Ahearn, of Parents for Megan's Law, says parents need to be aware and talk to their children about the feature.

"Everywhere your child goes, they could be followed by individuals looking to bully them or adults looking to stalk them," she says.

If kids are going to use the app or the map feature, Ahearn advises parents to make sure their friends on the app are people they know.

A Snapchat spokesperson says the Snap Map is automatically in "ghost mode," meaning your location will not show. Users have to take the extra step and turn it on.

The spokesperson says they want parents and all users to take the time to educate themselves on the app.
