Officials say residents were forced out of their Oceanside apartment following a smoke condition on Thursday.
Police say officers responded to the building on Tilrose Avenue.
News 12 has been told the Oceanside Fire Department responded and determined the smoke was because of a faulty oil burner.
The Red Cross was notified and offered assistance to the residents.
