Slain man's family wants witnesses to talk

Friends and family of a Long Beach man who was fatally shot in Hempstead gathered Sunday to remember him. "He didn't bother nobody," said the victim's girlfriend, Linda Parker. "He was a nice person.

Friends and family of a Long Beach man who was fatally shot in Hempstead gathered Sunday to remember him.
"He didn't bother nobody," said the victim's girlfriend, Linda Parker. "He was a nice person. Twenty-three ? [his] mother's first child."
Abkeen Cochran was shot Thursday outside a Hempstead apartment building. Mourners said they have no idea why the victim was there or whether he knew anyone in the area.
Police have little information to go on and a resident told News 12 Long Island snitching goes against the street code of ethics. He also said many people fear retaliation.
Relatives said they hope someone comes forward with information in the daylight shooting. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
