At least one person was killed in a six-car pileup that occurred Saturday afternoon on Glen Head Road in Old Brookville.

According to witnesses, the accident happened shortly before 4 p.m., in front of the Old Brookville Family Restaurant. One onlooker said she heard a loud boom and an instant later, saw crumpled cars and glass at the site.

Police shut down the half-mile stretch of Glen Head Road near Glen Cove Road, while investigators tried to assemble the details of the pileup.

Witnesses also say they saw several victims taken for medical assistance by helicopter. Police have not released information about the cause of the crash or the identities of any of the drivers involved.
