The Long Island Rail Road is back on track after signal problems near the Jamaica station caused some delays and cancellations Friday.

LIRR officials say a signal problem west of Jamaica sparked delays averaging 15 minutes eastbound and 40 minutes westbound, in addition to cancellations. As a result, commuters say they were frustrated by yet another issue this week.

By 8 p.m. Friday, most trains were running on or close to schedule. But some riders say they are concerned that there will be additional delays once Pope Francis comes to New York City next week.

The signal woes capped off a week that already proved arduous for the rail service, after a freight train derailment in Westbury Tuesday also caused numerous backups system wide. That incident caused two days of cancellations and repairs.

The LIRR declined News 12's request for an interview.
