Shoppers hitting the stores on Thanksgiving and Black Friday can expect to see stepped-up security in the wake of recent terror attacks.
Police in Nassau and Suffolk counties say that while there is no specific threat of an attack, they are on high alert. There will be an extra police presence in shopping centers, and plainclothes officers will also be on patrol.
Tim Sini, Suffolk's deputy police commissioner and nominee for the county's next commissioner, says that it's better to be safe than sorry. He says the department is working with its law enforcement partners in the region and staying vigilant.
Nassau and Suffolk police will also increase their DWI patrols over the extended holiday weekend.
