Shoppers cut their holidays short this Thanksgiving to wait for hours outside stores, eager to snap up Black Friday sale items.
With Thanksgiving dinner barely done, malls and box stores around Long Island were open.
Several major malls and chain stores opened at 6 p.m. Others opened even earlier in an effort to jump start holiday sales and beat online competitors. They offered discounts of 50 percent or more.
As more and more stores open early and trot out their best deals to get the jump on competitors, some of the deep discount items may not be even around on Black Friday.
Some people told News 12 they are concerned that the holiday meant to give thanks is being overshadowed by a shopping frenzy. Others said they are fine with it.
