A high school basketball referee collapsed due to a serious medical emergency during a game Friday in Freeport.
School officials say an AED was used to revive the man after he fell. 911 was contacted immediately and he was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Medical officials have since informed the school that he is conscious and speaking.
The school superintendent released a statement about the incident. In it, he thanks staff and EMS for their assistance.
He also stated that counselling will be made available to the basketball team, along with any other students present at the game.
