There were long lines of shoppers at some popular stores like Nike, Ugg, Victoria’s Secret, and Coach at Tanger Outlets in Deer Park, which opened at 6 a.m.
Black Friday is one of retailers' biggest days of the year, but not like it used to be. Many Long Island residents have already done their holiday shopping online, but some want to come out on Black Friday and shop all the deals in person. They say it's a holiday tradition.
“It's just the experience; it's my Superbowl. This is what it's all about,” said Olivia Schwalb, of Lindenhurst. She has been shopping on Black Friday at Tanger Outlets in Deer Park for years.
The stores will stay open on Black Friday until 9 p.m.
“It's not as crazy as it used to be because we extend the deals throughout the week—so many people do their shopping during the week. But today, it's just coming out, getting the extra doorbusters, getting the feel of the holiday season, and many shoppers are really happy,” said Amaka Muir, marketing director for Tanger Outlets Deer Park.
