A Shirley man convicted of raping his own stepdaughter was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Prosecutors say it began when the girl was 9 and continued for around a year.

It happened the girl's mother went to work. The girl told her mother about the abuse after it ended.

The suspect's name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
