A Kane In Your Corner investigation finds survivors of sexual assault often feel like they’re victimized again, by the legal system – and treatment of survivors can vary widely from state to state.
The women interviewed all shared a terrible experience and said they were sexually assaulted, only to have their cases ignored by law enforcement. Their rape kits went untested for years or were never tested at all.
For years, New Jersey has claimed it had no backlog of untested rape kits. But a Kane In Your Corner investigation found thousands of kits are collecting dust because prosecutors have chosen not to test them.
For more than three years, Kane In Your Corner has been investigating the treatment of rape survivors in New Jersey. Treatment that often makes them feel like they’ve been victimized again, this time by the system that was supposed to help them.
