A 51-year-old Shirley man has been charged with DWI and faces other felony charges in connection with an accident that killed a father of five.
Police say Jeffrey Eyde, 51, was driving drunk when his Dodge pick-up truck struck and killed 69-year-old Roy Whittle while he was crossing William Floyd Parkway Friday night. They say Whittle was just blocks from his home at the time of the accident. Those who knew Whittle say he was a nice guy and someone who would lend a hand to anyone.
In addition to DWI, Eyde is facing charges for driving with a suspended license. Police say his license was revoked or suspended nine times prior to Friday's accident. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (631) 852-8752.
