Construction is completed on one of the Shinnecock Indian Nation's massive billboards along Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays.
The 60-foot-tall billboard has a 30-foot LED screen that will serve as advertising space. It will greet drivers flocking to the Hamptons for Memorial Day weekend.
The Shinnecocks constructed the billboard on tribe-owned land to generate what they say is much-needed revenue.
The billboard plans have been met with protest from people in the Town of Southampton since their release. The state Department of Transportation had issued a stop-work order.
A second billboard on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway is under construction. The Shinnecocks expect it to be up and running in a couple weeks.
