A temporary shellfishing ban will be in place in Oyster Bay Harbor over the Fourth of July weekend.

Officials say the West Harbor will be closed to shellfishing because of potential for contamination due to heavy boating use and an increase in sewage contamination.

The ban starts July 4 and stays in effect through July 10.
