A reimagined “As You Like It” - a musical version of the famed Shakespeare play - is now on stage at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

Produced by The Public Theater, the free performances of Shakespeare’s classics are a summer tradition. This year marks 60 years since Shakespeare in the Park began.

"This vision, this impulse that Joseph Papp, our founder had, which was making sure that culture belonged to everybody," says Laurie Woolery, the director of “As You Like It.”

Woolery also leads Public Works, a program of The Public Theater, in which city residents can participate in creating theater. In fact, most of the performers in “As You Like It” are not professional actors - only five are professionals - but instead are Public Works participants of all ages stepping into the light.

Ato Blankson-Wood, a Tony-nominated actor, is taking on the lead role of Orlando. He says the production is a full-circle moment in his career.

"It is also the first place I had a professional job in New York City. It’s where I like actually started my career," says Blankson-Wood.

Over its 60 years, Shakespeare in the Park has staged around 150 productions. “As You Like It” will be performed through Sept. 11. Find more information on the show and how to get tickets HERE. Tickets must be reserved in person on the day of the performance.
