A convicted sex offender has been arrested for allegedly stalking a teenage boy in Freeport.
Brian Schlacter, 61, was arrested late Thursday. Police say the teenager took down his license plate number last week and told police the man had been tailing him for the past several months.
The suspect was convicted of second-degree sodomy with a 13-year-old in 2002. Prior to the conviction, he had volunteered with a youth group and coached youth basketball.
Schlacter was paroled in 2005 and moved back in with his mother, who lives on a block with many small children. Neighbor Linda Frey, who herself has a 13-year-old grandchild, wants authorities to throw the book at Schlacter.
"I hope he gets the strictest possible sentence," she says.
Schlacter faces a felony charge of second-degree stalking. He was arraigned Friday and is being held on $40,000 bail.
