Sen. Charles Schumer was in Amityville Monday discussing homelessness among veterans.
The senator says he is calling on Congress to pass legislation to improve programs which provide support services to homeless vets and their families.
He also says he wants to expand veterans' access to housing and encourage landlords to rent to veterans.
New York remains one of four states with more than 2,000 homeless vets and nearly 15 percent of those are from Long Island, according to Schumer.
