There is a new call for a safety sweep of aging buildings on Long Island's coastal communities.
Sen. Todd Kaminsky is urging the New York state Code Council to strengthen standards for aging buildings in Long Beach, which will include requiring building owners to conduct annual inspections of their properties.
"It is time we change the law so that we know which buildings are structurally put together, safe and have integrity -- and which are, frankly, dangerous," he said.
Kaminsky says he will be sending a letter to state officials demanding them to enhance regulatory requirements.
