Sen. Charles Schumer announced that $2.6 billion in federal funding is being allocated to the Long Island Rail Road.
The funds are coming from the recently passed bipartisan infrastructure framework bill.
Schumer says the money will be used for new signals, a capacity overhaul at Jamaica station and will make all stations accessible to the disabled.
"These direct funds for the Long Island Rail Road will keep workers working, keep riders riding, will keep the 24/7 service in place, will stop the cuts that were entertained during COVID--in all it will keep Long Island moving," Schumer says.
He says the money will also be used to repair roads, bridges and highways.
