Officials say security has been increased at Long Island malls following the deadly carjacking at New Jersey's Short Hills Mall.

Dustin Friedland, 30, was shot and killed Sunday night by two men who stole his Range Rover.

Police tell Newsday they have now stepped up patrols at local malls.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the Short Hills carjackers may be linked to the luxury car theft ring that was busted last week.

The ring was operating in Nassau County, New York City, Connecticut and New Jersey.
