Long Beach High School officials say security is beefed up following a threat found scrawled onto the surface of a student's desk.
In the message, Superintendent of Schools David Weiss says it indicated a threat for Tuesday. Officials say a verbal threat was also made over the weekend.
The district says police found no evidence of any real danger, but took several precautions throughout the day, including searching students' backpacks and increasing patrols.
As News 12 previously reported, two eighth-grade students threatened to bring a gun to Howitt Middle School in Farmingdale on Monday and shoot students. Police say that threat was unfounded.
Security is also bolstered at Lindenhurst High School following reports of several threats for this Thursday and Friday. After-school activities will be canceled on Thursday, and Suffolk police will be on the school grounds.
