the winner of the news. 12 Scholar athlete award sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, she's half Hollow Hills West High School Senior Ashley brutal. Now, if you want to see Ashley at her best look up first, she's near the top of her class, thanks to a 93 unweighted G. P. A. She also sores way up as a pole vaulter. Ashley is the defending Long island champion and the Suffolk County champ since her sophomore year And this weekend she finished in 2nd place at the Nike Indoor Nationals, jumping 11 ft seven inches. What's really amazing is that she did it six months after suffering multiple back fractures and the displaced vertebrae, she lost nearly two months of training but gained good lessons in appreciation and patience, But there was a lot of meats like when I was in 10th, 11th grade, even like if I couldn't do something right right away, I would get so frustrated and just like break down like couldn't even jump anymore. So this definitely helped me a lot to like figure out like, oh, I got to be patient with stuff, you know, we all go through our difficulties in life, you know, we've all experienced as you get older, you can kind of reflect on those things for someone who is 17 years old to have gone to the struggles that she's gone through and still come out where she's going have success in her life no matter what. And Ashley also created the Long Island pole vaulters club and teaches religion at ST Matthew's Church in Dix Hills, she's also a Girl Scout earning her silver award, the second highest award in girl scouting. And like all of our winners, Ashley gets a $1000 scholarship from Bethpage Federal Credit Union. I'm kevin Maher.
