A big pumpkin-picking weekend is ahead for Long Island, and one farm in Suffolk is prepared with thousands of gourds to get into the fall spirit.
Schmitt's Farms in Melville has 22 acres of pumpkins that are ripe for the picking.
Schools take trips to the farm during the week, and they learn how to grow vegetables like string beans, radishes and corn.
Amanda Pellechia and her sister have come to Schmitt's Farms since childhood. They now bring their husbands and their children.
