A Long Beach woman was reunited Wednesday with $5,000 in cash she accidentally tossed in the trash, thanks to the work of sanitation workers.
Krishna Nandalall says his mother, Bayban, had to work for months at a nursing home in order to make the $5,000 she needed to pay her mortgage. Lucky for Bayban, her son is a sanitation worker and reached out to his co-workers for help.
"She was crying, I said, 'No problem, we're going to find your money," says Nandalall.
A friend shot a cellphone video as Krishna and other sanitation workers spent an hour searching through 13 tons of garbage. Eventually, they came across the money in full.
Bayban offered to give the workers some of the money, but they wouldn't take it.
