Sagamore Hill to close for 3-year renovation

People who have yet to visit Sagamore Hill have only until the end of this weekend to do so before it undergoes a three-year restoration.

Theodore Roosevelt's summer home in Cove Neck will be renovated from its roof to the foundation. The home's electric and heating systems will also be revamped.

Diane and Pat LoRusso drove down from Westchester County after learning the house will close down for restoration after Sunday.

"It was very nice and very enjoyable to see where he lived and raised his family," says Pat LoRusso. "It's a splendid place, the location is absolutely fantastic."

During the $6.2 million renovation, many artifacts from Roosevelt's home will be on display at his son's house, which has been converted into a museum and sits on the same Sagamore Hill property.

Sagamore Hill was built in 1884, before Roosevelt became president or even governor, but after his election to the highest office, much of the nation's business would take place there during the summer.
