In an effort to keep children safe on Halloween night, Campbell Park in Hempstead held a special event for the community's trick-or-treaters.
Many parents told News 12 that the neighborhood was too dangerous to take children door-to-door.
Instead, more than 200 kids showed off their costumes and stuffed their sacks with candy during the Halloween celebration.
Hempstead Fire Captain Jeffrey Spenser and Hempstead School Board President Lamont Johnson organized two safe Halloween parties this year.
