The Sachem school board announced at a meeting Wednesday that it plans to close three schools in the district due to declining enrollment.
Concerned parents were on hand to find out which schools may close. There were six schools in the Sachem School District on the chopping block.
The board presented two possible closing plans. The first would shutter Tecumseh and Gatelot elementary schools along with Sequoya Middle School. The second plan called for closing Lynwood and Nokomis elementary schools and Seneca Middle School.
Board members informed parents during the meeting that they selected to close Tecumseh and Gatelot elementary schools along with Sequoya Middle School.
Parents say they are worried about the displacement of their kids.
School board members say the number of teachers and other staff members who'll lose their jobs as a result of the school closings will not be known until September.
