A student in South Huntington has been hospitalized with a suspected case of bacterial meningitis.
School officials say an eighth grade boy was sent home from Stimson Middle School on Wednesday with complaints of a headache. The boy was rushed to the intensive care unit of Huntington Hospital that evening. He remains there in guarded condition.
Letters were sent home Thursday to the parents of students in the school district notifying them about the case. Some are concerned the school hasn?t been shut down by the scare.
?I?m a little worried for my kids,? says Ruth Sherland, a mother in the district. ?I think they should have closed the school.?
