Thousands of runners turned out Sunday to take part in the annual Suffolk County Marathon.
About 2,000 people signed up for the 26.2-mile course, which is mostly on Montauk Highway and in towns like Patchogue, Blue Point, Sayville and Oakdale.
The men's winner was Amityville resident Boyd Carrington, 46, who crossed the finish line just before the two-hour, 39-minute mark.
The women's winner was 37-year-old Manhasset resident Maggie Tursi, who finished in 3 hours and 13 minutes.
It marked the fourth year for the event along the South Shore, and it also included a half-marathon and 5K.
Proceeds from the race go to benefit veterans charities.
There were road closures in place along the route, and security was stepped up this year, although there is no specific threat to the event.
But the race comes in the wake of the horrific mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday that killed 11 people. The mail bomb case last week also targeted multiple locations in New York.
