A runaway reptile that was captured in Bay Shore was reunited with its owner Wednesday.
News 12 reported that the 3-year-old Savannah monitor named Bunny survived on her own for a few days before she wandered into a neighbor's yard. The good Samaritans were able to cage the lizard and posted their find on Facebook.
Owner Janely Izquierdo saw the video that was shared thousands of times and was excited to see her pet again. She picked up Bunny from Jungle Bob's Reptile World in Selden.
Shop co-owner Tyler Smith says it's clear Bunny is loved, saying owners often abandon reptiles in similar situations.
"They are overwhelmed. They don't want to go through the paperwork of dropping them off."
Bunny is not furry, but Izquirerdo insisted that she is as cuddly "as a bunny" – which is how she got her name.
"She's a sweetheart," she says.
Workers at the pet store say Bunny is going to be fine.
