A ruling is expected in the next few weeks in the fight over a proposed catering hall on the famous Canoe Place Inn property in Hampton Bays.

Some residents who are against the planned development filed a lawsuit that challenges zoning changes in the Town of Southampton.

The proposal calls for the construction of 37 townhouses on the eastern bank of the Shinnecock Canal and the restoration of the inn, along with the construction of a 300-seat catering hall on the western side.

Homeowners say the condos will create a traffic nightmare, and that the sewage system proposed by the developer will put the wastewater right at their doorsteps.

Environmentalist Kevin Mcallister says that to make matters worse, the county Health Department is allowing the builder to use old-fashioned cesspools at the catering facility.

The Town of Southhampton didn't return News 12's call for comment.

Rechler Equity says the project went through a comprehensive five-year review process, including public hearings, and was unanimously approved.
