Roslyn residents still wary of the spending scandal that rocked the district rejected the largest tax increase in Nassau County Tuesday.
The budget was voted down with 1,764 votes in favor and 1,928 votes against the spending plan. School officials are quick to point out that while the proposed 9.14 percent hike was the highest in the county, contingency budgets held the tax levy increase under 3 percent in each of the past two years. They say the average increase over three years would still be one of the smallest on Long Island.
Former Roslyn student Nicole Groman, now at Cornell, says the scandal is both good and bad for the budget. She says it may make some hesitant to pass the budget, but added it will also bring people out in droves to voice their opinions.
