Police say they?ve busted a Roslyn couple that allegedly ran a multi-million dollar counterfeit goods operation out of their home and warehouse.
Authorities say Rakesh and Poonam Kumar had a warehouse in Farmingdale filled with millions of dollars worth of knock-off designer items like bags and shoes. Police estimate the street value of the merchandise to be more than $2 million. When they raided the warehouse, investigators say they also discovered $1.5 million in cash in a safety deposit box.
The investigation revealed a complex financial web of illegal activity, according to police. Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says the Kumars would buy counterfeit items from suppliers in New York City and then ship them out. Their customers were located throughout the United States.
