A Long Island "Rosie the Riveter" has died. Sophie Sarro, of Huntington Station, was 103 years old.
Sarro worked during World War II alongside many other women at Grumman and Republic Aviation building fighter planes.
"I remember we had to wear bandanas, we had to wear pants and we had to work in the plane," Sarro told News 12 two years ago about her experience. "I worked in the plane, worked on the battery boxes."
Sarro was one of the 6 million "Rosie the Riveters" who worked in factories across the United States during World War II.
