The Roosevelt School District today unveiled a newly renovated high school and celebrated its freedom from state control.

Officials today cut the ribbon at the brand new $66.9 million Roosevelt High School.

Today also marked an "Independence Day" of sorts for the district. It had been under the state's control since 2002 due to a high dropout rate.

The state's historic takeover aimed to fix fiscal problems and poor academic performance in the district. Although more than $300 million was invested by the state over a decade, test scores only improved slightly.

Still, educators and parents see a bright future with local control returned to Roosevelt.
