Firefighters in Suffolk County took part in a different type of challenge Wednesday -- they battled for top prize in a wing eating contest.
Wings and the Super Bowl go hand in hand, and firefighters in Ronkonkoma and Centereach got a head start with a battle of who could eat the most wings for a good cause. Four firefighters took part in the wing challenge at the Stop & Shop in Ronkonkoma.
The four firefighters had five minutes to eat as many wings as possible. Each firefighter had a different strategy. One firefighter said he started to chew the wings while starting to eat another one and another firefighter twisted the meat off the bone and slurped it down.
In the end the winner was -- the Centereach Fire Department.
The department received a $1,000 check from Stop & Shop. The money will go to the
Joey D Foundation, which helps train firefighters.
The Ronkonkoma Fire Department also received a $250 check that will go to a burn center.
