Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine spoke out Monday for the first time since severed body parts were found at Southards Pond Park in Babylon.
Romaine told neighbors in the nearby community not to be scared or on edge.
“We are going to keep you safe and this didn’t really happen at that park – I believe this was an isolated incident where people chose a park to put the bodies, not where it occurred – and I think anyone that is looking at that will tell you that, so it did not occur in the park,” Romaine said.
Romaine told News 12 that he feels "very good" about the investigation and that police have several leads so far.
The county executive would not say if the FBI has been contacted in connection to the case.
As News 12 has reported, several dismembered body parts were found at the park on Thursday, including a man’s arms and a woman’s head and limbs.
Police have not yet identified the victims.
