Crews have started construction on a new skate park at Roberto Clemente Park in Brentwood.
There are also plans for a sensory-driven autism playground at the park.
"It gives them some kind of past time to keep their children engaged and improve their progress," Assemblyman Phil Ramos says.
He says $500,000 will be dedicated to building the state-of-the-art playground.
It will also be the first in the Town of Islip catering to children on the autism spectrum.
