Dozens of expensive birds were stolen from a Rockville Centre pet store Tuesday.
Marc Morrone, owner of Parrots of the World, said more than $60,000 worth of birds were taken in the early-morning break-in. Forty parrots, four cockatoos and a baby toucan were all stolen, Morrone said.
"These are very, very good robbers," he said. "The problem is robbers are bad people, and bad people are bad pet keepers."
The storeowner said police confiscated two cages that the burglars brought with them to gather the birds. Morrone said instead, they grabbed two cages filled with 20 parrots in each and left their own cages.
Anyone with information on the missing birds is asked to contact Nassau Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
