The Town of Riverhead has voted to loosen up pot dispensary zoning restrictions.

Town officials are removing a 1,000-foot buffer between recreational pot shops and homes in the town’s major commercial areas.

The move comes after potential shop owners and town officials spot at a public hearing last month about not being able to actually open shops because of zoning laws.

The town supervisor also said not opening the dispensary is causing the town to lose out on money.
